At the 143rd Convention in New York, the AES Will Debut its Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Press Releases

New York, NY – October 17, 2017 – Chaired by Leslie Gaston-Bird, the AES’ first African-American to serve on the AES Board of Governors, the new Diversity and Inclusion Committee will host a Town Hall on Wednesday, October 18 at 9:30 am to introduce the goals of the committee and invite comments from AES members. More information about the event can be found at the following link: http://www.aes.org/events/143/specialevents/?ID=5627.

AES President Alex Case states “I think it likely we all agree on the general virtue of embracing diversity, and nurturing inclusion, and the value to our field that comes from an AES made up of the broadest pool of empowered talent. There remains the need for discrete activities — multiple, smaller steps — to achieve that broad aim. This committee is the arm of the AES ready to lead the work that makes sure that, on our watch, where we can make a difference, we will foster diversity and inclusion for the benefit of the art, craft, and technology of audio.”

AES Executive Director Bob Moses concurs, adding, “If AES has a singular mission, it’s to lift everyone in our industry through innovation, education, and networking. The more rich and diverse our community, the higher we go.”

The goal of the committee is to promote a more demographically diverse and inclusive AES membership with broad representation from working audio professionals. At the town hall meeting, key points of this effort will be unveiled in detail, and a web page will soon be available on the AES.org’s site in the “Community” Section.
